The vital importance of the vernacular

Importance of vernacular language can be best understood by the words of former President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam who once said that science education should be imparted to children in local language to bring creativity and enable easy grasp of the subject.

The New Education Policy of India lays emphasis on imparting education in mother tongue or local language in primary classes. The ongoing experiments of adopting tribal language as a medium of instruction in Odisha and Assam is a step towards eliminating language block in learning. According to Google’s 2020 report on India, more than 84% of online video viewers prefer non-English content, which indicates an increasing demand for content in the local language.
Edtech platforms who are purveying to the interests of multilingual people must design their content in vernacular.
