Education for livelihood or human dignity?

The dictionary describes Education as the act of teaching knowledge to others and the act of receiving knowledge from someone else. Education also refers to the knowledge received through schooling or instruction and to the institution of teaching as a whole.

But have we ever wondered why is education so important? Why has education become a necessity, especially in the modern world? Is education important because it provides us with a better means of living? Or is it because it gives us confidence and courage to face life in all its glory?

Now practically speaking, it helps a person hone their communication skills and formulates critical thinking. It helps an individual to be qualified enough to secure jobs as well as promotes gender equality. Although this is not all that education has to offer, knowing how to read, and write is empowering but when a person can read, they can access endless knowledge. Education makes a person able enough to form opinions, to become self-reliant, and provides them with confidence to face the world.

Sociologically speaking, a person’s income is inversely proportional to his or her educational attainment. People with higher educational degrees get better jobs with higher salaries. Furthermore, once children are educated, they have more ways to make a difference in their communities, leading us towards a better future.

Education contributes to a person's holistic development, it not only provides them with a secure and prosperous life but also makes them respectable individuals in society.
