Photo Blog: Bringing married women back to school
Many female students in India have to bear the impact of family responsibilities. Some are married off even before they can complete their school education.
Online education is particularly suited for these women because it provides them a flexible schedule to learn at home, since classroom attendance is not an option for them. Often, women are constrained by time, space and socio-economic issues. Learning through smartphones enables them to study at their own pace and take up courses and vocations of their own interest. These women get a second chance to complete their education, and even pursue higher education. This allows them to earn as well as to fulfil family responsibilities.
The photo in focus is about the combined initiative of Turn the Bus and Jeevika to provide online education solutions to the Jeevika didis and their family.
